This project started with me trying to reduce my phosphate levels in my SPS aquarium. I have a 4 stage RODI filter that I bought from a local aquarium shop in Tampa Florida. I worked well for me but I was fighting phosphate problems. After checking Phosphate levels in my aquarium, RODI water, and My newly mixed salt water I had some surprising results.
Phosphate Before I started levels:
Tank: .05ppm
Newly mixed salt water: .04ppm
RODI water: .01ppm
Original 4 stage RODI Filter
This filter has the following stages:
1 stage: 10m particulate filter
2 stage: 5m Carbon Block
3 stage: Reverse Osmosos
4 stage: DI Resin
I want to add one more carbon bock and one more DI (to help with my phosphate). I started by purchasing some 2in. aluminum L brackets, and two more canisters that I got from a local Aquarium shop for $12 each. I used the holes in the tops to mark on a piece of paper so I could drill the holes in the aluminum at the correct locations.
After Drilling the holes I attached the canisters.
The RO filter brackets would not exactly fit so I added a small flat plate.
You have to remember to put the restricter tube in the wast water output from the RO stage.
After full assembly. I put a short piece of L bracket at each end to make it stronger as well as give me a good place to set the whole unit on bookshelf brackets on the wall. These end pieces also keep the wall from banging into the 90 degree john guest fittings.

This is how I upgraded my 4 stage RO/DI filter to a 6 stage filter This project was actually pretty easy. I did it one Saturday afternoon.
